Repression in prison on the increase

A report by the Platform of Struggle Against Isolation states that the rights violations as well as arbitrary procedures such as disciplinary penalties, communication prevention and body searches are taking place notably in F Type high security prisons.

The report noted that two or three-month communication and/or visit bans were applied to prisoners after commemorations which take place as frequently as 15 or 16 times a year.

Three prisoners in the 2nd Tekirdað F Type Prison, Cem Kýlýç, Fýrat Özçelik and Alihan Alhan, who will have to serve ten more years in prison due to disciplinary penalties were also mentioned in the report.

Some other right violations mentioned in the report are as follows:

-Prisoner Mehmet Akdemir's letter was not delivered on the grounds that it praised the death fasts in the 2nd Tekirdað F Type Prison.

-Prisoner Serdar Karaçelik's fax which he wanted to send to journalists and the Republican People's Party (CHP) Chair Kemal Kýlýçdaroðlu was destroyed in the 2nd Tekirdað F Type Prison.

-A 15-day cell penalty was given to Osman Nuri Ocaklý because of a calendar he had in the 2nd Tekirdað F Type Prison.

-Prisoner Talat Þanlý could not have an eye operation due to the imposition of examination with handcuffs in the 2nd Tekirdað F Type Prison.

-The heating system in the 2nd Tekirdað F Type Prison is not working properly and no hot water is given to prisoners. In addition, lock of the infirmary with broken door is not working.

-Art materials such as paints, coloured paper have been seized in the Kýrýklar F Type Prison.

-Prisoners' weekly right to telephone has been suspended due to a dance they performed along with a Kurdish song.

-Thirty women prisoners have been beaten because they refused naked body search in the Bergama M Type Prison.
