The Saturday Mothers staged a sit-in in front of Galatasaray High School to reclaim their missing loved ones and to protest MP Zafer Uskul, head of the Human Rights Commission of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey. Uskul had declared in a meeting that the police stations in Turkey are safe places and that cases of tortures are indeed decreased.
Mothers reacted strongly to Uskul words. “We are looking for our missing loved ones for 15 years - they said - and we cannot bear the idea of being forced to look for another 15 years. Uskul has to give us answers and work to find the missing people instead of giving out false information about the current situation".
Different demonstrators spoke about what they had to suffer while in detention, torture, intimidation, threats.
BDP (Peace and Democracy Party) deputies Serafettin Halis and Ufuk Uras also addressed the Saturday Mothers. Deputies of BDP also criticised the state and administration for ignoring more than 17 thousands of missing.
