Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu visited Sırrı Süreyya Önder and said that doctors had decided to keep him under sedation for five more days.
Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, former chair of the Republican People’s Party (CHP), visited Sırrı Süreyya Önder, a member of the Imrali Delegation of the Peoples' Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) and the Deputy Speaker of Parliament. At the hospital, Kılıçdaroğlu met with DEM Party co-chairs Tülay Hatimoğulları and Tuncer Bakırhan, as well as the doctor who performed Önder’s surgery. He received information about Önder’s condition and extended his wishes.
Bakirhan: Everyone must take part in the process
Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu said that he had spoken with Sırrı Süreyya Önder by phone just a few days before his illness. He said: "Our prayers are with Sırrı Süreyya Önder. He had a great sense of humour; his jokes made us all laugh. He is a truly good person and a principled politician. We hope to hear good news about him soon." After asking about Önder’s condition during the meeting, the discussion shifted to the broader political process. Tuncer Bakirhan said: "We are going through a very critical period. Abdullah Öcalan’s call is directed at all oppressed peoples, women, workers, and all communities. All political parties must support and participate in this process. People like Sırrı Süreyya Önder are vital to it. This process cannot be limited to just the DEM Party and the Justice and Development Party (AKP). If it is, it will not succeed. All parties and organizations must be involved. In that sense, your approach to the process is important."
Kılıçdaroğlu: Turkey is in need of a resolution
Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu also emphasized the importance of the process, stating that the DEM Party is doing valuable work and playing a significant role. He stressed that the process is of great importance to Turkey and added that Turkey, too, is in need of a resolution.
Sabahat Tuncel: We must take part, not just observe
Sabahat Tuncel, a member of the Free Women’s Movement (Tevgera Jinên Azad-TJA), underlined the need for active participation in the process and said: “You say you are observing the situation in Turkey and the Middle East. But when it comes to this process, observation is not enough. "hat’s needed is participation. The Penal Execution Law must be changed, and political prisoners and seriously ill detainees must be released. We have experienced a similar process before; we were imprisoned, and many of our comrades remain behind bars. That is why legal reform is essential. It is also important for you to actively take part in this process.”
Everyone hopes for Önder’s recovery
Following the meeting, Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu made a brief statement outside the hospital, saying that everyone hopes for Sırrı Süreyya Önder’s recovery. He said, “His sense of humour always made people smile. According to the information we received from the doctors, his sedation period has been extended by five days. I sincerely hope he regains his health soon.”
