The Swedish Peace Council, umbrella organization of 11 peace associations, wrote a letter to the Swedish Government, EU Council of Ministers and International Court of Justice, demanding the release of Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan and all political prisoners and delisting the PKK as a terrorist organization.

The letter signed by Swedish Peace Council Chair Agneta Norberg pointed out the increasing cruel repression of Turkish President Erdoğan against the Kurdish people that co-exist with other ethnic and faith groups in peace, as well as the constructive outcomes of the struggle waged the Kurdish women.

Referring the physical and psychological pressures Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan has been subjected to since his capture as result of an international plot on 15 February 1999, Norberg highlighted “serious concerns over the life and health of Öcalan”.

Norberg mentioned the arrest of HDP deputies and mayors and said: “Democratic powers and the Kurdish people need our solidarity. We demand freedom for Öcalan and all political prisoners”.

Calling on the CPT to not leave Öcalan and political prisoners alone, and to stand against cruel practices, Norberg said the following:

“We call on all institutions and individuals, and defenders of global democratic rights, freedom, justice and peace to defend the rights of the Turkish and Kurdish peoples and condemn Erdoğan's and AKP's arbitrary practices against those thinking differently than them. We also demand the removal of the PKK from the list of terrorist organisations.”
