Two political prisoners denounce violence by guards during transfer to hearing

Two political prisoners brought from Elazig to Batman T Type Closed Prison to attend their hearing were subjected to the violence by the guards on the grounds that they did not stand up during the count.

Salih Ilmin and a prisoner whose name has not been learned were transferred from Elazığ No. 2 High Security Prison to Batman T Type Closed Prison to attend their hearing.

Gülçin Ilmin, Salih Ilmin's sister, said that she learned that her brother had been subjected to violence in a phone call on 10 June.

Salih Ilmin has been imprisoned on charges of "membership in a terrorist organization" since 2018.

Gülçin Ilmin said that her brother was brought to Batman Prison on 27 May for the hearing on 4 June. “There were only two prisoners in the ward. The guards want them to stand up during the count. My brother and the other prisoner said that there were only two of them and they won’t stand up. The guards tried to force them to their feet. They resisted, saying that they will not get up. The guards, then, threw them out of the ward with the chair they were sitting on. In the meantime, they physically harassed them.”

It was reported that the prisoners who were subjected to the violence of the guards were sent back to Elazig No. 2 High Security Prison on 4 June.

Gülçin Ilmin reminded that prisoners have been on an indefinite alternating hunger strike against the isolation for 202 days and added that she notified the prison administration that if the rights violations of the two prisoners do not end, they will start a death fast.

Ilmin called on the public to be sensitive.
