Ultranationalists continue their attacks on students

Worrisome developments yesterday in front of the hospital in Tokat where two seriously injured students are being cured. Students Deniz Aktop and Can Akyürek have been attacked by a nationalist group called “Ulkucu” after leaving the police station.

According to information obtained from local sources, members of the Human Rights Association (IHD) and Teachers’ Trade Union (Egitim Sen) Tokat Branches arrived to the hospital, where the ulkucu groups had gathered, and tried to calm the crowd.

Three students were taken into custody on Friday night. Two others went to the police station to have information about their friends. they left the police station and they were attacked by an ultranationalist group, there were around 15 people. According to information obtained, knives were used during the attack and the assaulted students were lucky to be saved by other friends who passed nearby by coincidence. The two badly injured students were taken to hospital by their friends. They have to undergo surgery.

The attack in Tokat happened only a few days after the attack by an ultranationalis group against Kurdish students in Mugla. As a result of that attack, young Kurdish student, Serzan Kurt, have lost his life, after a week in a coma.
