The body found in Sur during the excavation is believed to belong to Hakan Arslan. The Arslan family applied to the Prosecutor General's office to get a DNA test result.
The family of Hakan Arslan filed an application to the Diyarbakır Chief Public Prosecutor's Office to get authorization for a DNA test to be performed on the body found in Sur and believed to be that of Hakan Arslan.
The body was found on 7 February during the excavation work in Hasırlı, which was the scene of clashes between 2015 and 2016.
The body found during the ongoing excavation in the area between the Catholic Church and Hasırlı Mescidi was taken to the morgue of the Forensic Medicine Institute (ATK).
Hakan Arslan's family, who had been informed that Hakan had passed away and had been buried next to Hasırlı Mosque, could not reach his remains even though they had tried to reach it for the past 5 years.
Hakan’s father, Ali Rıza Arslan, made a written petition to the Diyarbakır Chief Public Prosecutor's Office through his lawyer given the possibility that the body found in Sur could belong to his son. The Attorney General's Office informed Arslan that he does not need to give a DNA test again for identification, and that the sample taken in 2016 is still valid.
Ali Rıza Arslan, who also applied to the Human Rights Association (IHD) Amed branch, is waiting for the DNA results to be released to clarify whether the body belongs to his son or not.
