The Press Center of the People’s Defense Forces (HPG) released a statement providing information on the ongoing war in guerrilla-held Medya Defense Zones in southern Kurdistan (northern Iraq).
According to the statement, eighteen soldiers were killed in guerrilla actions against the Turkish invasion areas of Metina and Zap on Sunday. In Metina alone, the guerrillas struck the Turkish forces eleven times, with sniper units in five of these actions. At Girê Cûdî, a Sikorsky helicopter was fired upon and severely hit while transporting troops. The aircraft had to turn back without being able to airdrop the soldiers. In the regions of Zap and Avaşîn, several attempts by the occupying forces to advance on the guerrillas' tunnel systems built in mountain massifs were repulsed. Most of the actions were again carried out under the leadership of the Free Women's Troops (YJA Star).
HPG reported that the Turkish army's bombardment of southern Kurdistan continues unabated. Turkey continues to use chemical agents and TNT in addition to strikes by fighter jets and artillery attacks from the outposts on the border.
The HPG Press Center listed the recent attacks of the Turkish army as follows:
- Attacks with explosive agents against the war positions at Girê Hakkarî.
- Introduction of toxic fumes through burned objects such as car tires into the tunnel facility at the Werxelê massif.
- Seven chemical weapons attacks against the tunnel facilities at Şikefta Birîndara and Karker.
- Bombings by explosive devices at Girê Cehennem in the Çiyareş area.
- Seven strikes by attack helicopters against Girê FM, Çiyareş and Girê Rûbar.
- Howitzer attacks carried out by border troops against Çemço, Tabura Ereban and Werxelê between June 4 and 5.
- A total of ten air strikes by fighter jets against the areas of Girê Cûdî, Çemço, Werxelê, Saca and Ava Zapê on June 5 and 6.
