The TEV ÇAND (Kurdistan Democratic Culture and Arts Movement) Committee announced that Agir Serîhildan, a member of the cultural and artistic movement and also part of the Awazê Çiya group, was martyred in a traffic accident on 6 January 2025.
The statement released by the TEV ÇAND Committee regarding the martyrdom of Serîhildan is as follows:
"Comrade Agir Serîhildan (Aram Merdanî) was martyred in a traffic accident on January 6, 2025, and thus joined the caravan of the immortal.
Comrade Agir was born on March 12, 1996, in the city of Mahabad in Eastern Kurdistan (Rojhilat), into a patriotic family. Despite all the opportunities offered to him by the system, they could not suppress his passion for struggle and freedom, nor his search for meaning. Comrade Agir constantly deepened this search to reach his goal and to join the guerrillas.
Comrade Agir Serîhildan was a competent intellectual and artist. Even though he was educated in the schools of the Iranian regime, he never distanced himself from his identity and culture; he always lived with his identity and culture. This is how he shaped his personality and character. For this reason, after completing high school, he went on to university and successfully graduated.
Comrade Agir chose to study art when he entered university. This was a reflection of his deep commitment to his culture. Through this decision, he aimed to strengthen the culture of his people as much as possible and to fill in the gaps where it was lacking. For this reason, he focused specifically on painting and cinema within the field of arts and completed his master’s degree in these areas. In addition, he conducted research in the field of music, learned to play instruments, and especially mastered the guitar. In short, Comrade Agir possessed all the qualities to live comfortably and build a career within the system. But he put aside all these opportunities and turned toward the freedom struggle of his people.
He found answers to all his questions and searches within the movement
Comrade Agir was in constant search, and this search led him to a free life, an egalitarian society, and the path of struggle. He was introduced to the struggle during his youth, and his interest in the freedom movement deepened and expanded during his university years. He approached the struggle not only emotionally but with full consciousness. He carried out research especially on the freedom struggle and its methods, and the armed resistance of the guerrillas drew his attention. Similarly, the cultural and artistic activities in the mountains especially intrigued him, and he wished to take part in them and become one with the artistic and cultural efforts carried out in the mountains. With his art and emotions, he desired to be a drop in the ocean of freedom. For this purpose, he turned toward the Freedom Movement. Comrade Agir found answers to all his questions and searches within the movement. Among his comrades, he was known as a humble, self-sacrificing, inquisitive person with delicate and beautiful emotions. Comrade Agir expressed himself through his art. He was deeply connected to his culture, a militant who shaped and preserved his culture through his struggle.
Comrade Agir joined the movement in 2019. He received his basic training in the Medya Defense Zones and participated in practical work. He later joined the Youth Committee and continued his work in the mountain regions. Within the Youth Committee, he both carried out organizational work and continued his artistic search and research.
After some time in the Youth Committee, Comrade Agir joined the cultural and artistic work of TEV-ÇAND. After joining TEV-ÇAND, he engaged in cultural work for nearly two years. Within TEV-ÇAND, he was both a musician in the Awazê Çiyayê music group and worked as a painter and filmmaker. Comrade Agir lived every moment of his life with the harmony of art and beauty. Through his spirit and conduct, he added color to life and to every place he was present. In his struggle and revolutionary life, he was always a unique example of discipline, sacrifice, and comradeship. Comrade Agir was a creative artist.
Comrade Agir Serîhildan was martyred on January 6, 2025, while on duty, in a traffic accident, and joined the caravan of the immortal. As an artist and revolutionary, he left us a vast and powerful legacy. As TEV-ÇAND, we will embrace this legacy passed down from Mizgîns to Sefkans and from Agirs. We will always keep them and their dreams alive in our lives, in our art, and in our freedom struggle and we will absolutely realize their dreams. With the free spirit of Comrade Agir, we will live and struggle.
On this occasion, we offer our condolences first and foremost to Comrade Agir’s honorable family, to all freedom artists, and to the people of Kurdistan. On the path of Leader Öcalan’s free life line, we will embrace Comrade Agir’s spirit and legacy, live it, and turn his dreams into reality."
