210 people, mostly members of the HDP and DBP who were detained as part of political genocide operations in Urfa 10 days ago, are still held in custody.

As many as 210 people were taken into custody in Urfa province on December 12. The detainees are kept in a sports hall as if in an internment camp and it is yet not clear when they will be referred to the prosecutor's office to give their statements.

According to information obtained from Libertarian Lawyers' Platform (Özgürlükçü Hukukçular Platformu), the detainees include 9 lawyers registered to Urfa Bar Association.

Names of these lawyers are: Özkan Gören, Bülent Özışık, Velat İzol, Cemo Tüysüz, Gülay Koca, Serdar Gökhan, Mevlüt Güneş, Aslan Veysanoğlu and Sait Dağ.

DBP-held Bozova Municipality Co-mayor Zeynel Taş, DBP-held Viranşehir Municipality Co-mayor Filiz Yılmaz and DBP-held Suruç Municipality Co-mayor Halil Akbaş are also among those held in custody for 10 days now.

The 210 detainees are being kept under very poor conditions, so much so that all have to use one single toilet.

While the detainees are meant to be referred to hospital for medical check as per procedures, their health check is performed by a doctor that visits the sports hall every 5 days.

Detainees are also denied access to their lawyers who are allowed to see their clients only in the event of getting a special permission from the prosecutor's office.
