25 soldiers killed in guerrilla actions marking August 15

At least 25 soldiers were killed in a series of actions conducted by HPG/YJA Star guerrillas to mark August 15, Day of Resurrection.

HPG Media Center reported a series of actions conducted by HPG/YJA Star guerrillas to mark August 15, Day of Resurrection, when PKK carried out its first actions in Siirt's Eruh district and Hakkari's Şemdinli district in the year of 1984.

HAKKARİ

According to the statement, Turkish army started an operation around the villages of Qadana, Xıznê, Nêrgula, Ewliya, Dêrik, Gare and Meleyan in Şemzinan (Şemdinli) district of Hakkari on August 13. Towards the morning, guerrillas hit a military unit operating in this area from two sides, which left 5 soldiers dead. The operation was retreated one step back and continued around Martyr Hawin, Kurê Mızgeftê areas and Ewliya village with reinforced units in the afternoon.

Clashes erupted in many areas and lasted till 14:30 amid an intense, howitzer, mortar and jet fire focusing in Gostê area. On August 14, Turkish jets bombed Gostê area from 12:30 to 13:30.

10 soldiers were killed and 5 guerrillas fell martyr during the fighting which continues in some areas in the operation zone.

ŞIRNAK

On August 12, guerrillas hit two armored vehicles heading towards the Germav village in Şırnak's Beytüşşebap district. One specialist sergeant was confirmed wounded but the exact number of dead and wounded soldiers couldn't be verified. Turkish forces shelled the area intensely with mortars and A4 weapons in the wake of the action.

While Turkish military activity in the area continues, guerrillas ambushed and hit a Turkish unit at 19:15 on August 13 evening, leaving 4 soldiers dead and 4 others wounded.

YJA-Star guerrillas hit the Turkish soldiers deployed around Hill Şehidan in Şırnak's Uludere district;

- between 10.00 – 11.00 on August 9,

- between 14.30 - 15.00 on August 10,

- between 14:30 – 15:00 on August 12,

- between 15.00 – 16.00 on August 13,

- between 17.00 - 18.00 on August 14.

The number of dead and wounded soldiers couldn't be verified.

AĞRI

At 17:30 on August 14, guerrillas hit the soldiers laying ambush near Kulê village in Ağrı's Doğubeyazıt district. Three emplacements formed here were destroyed and 4 soldiers were killed in the action. Military activity in the area continues.

BİTLİS

At 18:30 on August 14, guerrillas targeted the soldiers on move from Birikar outpost towards a hill in the countryside of Tatvan district of Bitlis. Two soldiers were killed here.

Guerrillas performed ID check on Tatvan-Hizan road at between 17.30 - 19.00 on August 14, and informed the people about the ongoing process. A car that did not stop at the scene was hit by a warning fire, then by gunfire as it continued to move. The number of those killed or wounded in the car couldn't be clarified.

DERSİM

HPG continued, clarifying a situation in Munzur Valley in Dersim province. Accordingly, a group of workers went to a military zone to repair the failure in telephone lines caused by the Turkish army attacks in Munzur Valley on August 9. Although workers entered the zone with permission from the commander of the Zarge outpost in the area, soldiers opened deliberate fire during the repair work, which left one worker dead.

HPG stressed that Turkish media tried to put the blame of this incident on guerrillas despite the fact that the attack was carried out by state forces.
