AKP continues bombing civilian settlements in Southern Kurdistan

A mortar shell fired from a Turkish outpost hit the village of Orê in Metina region in Southern Kurdistan. Villagers condemn the increasingly ongoing Turkish attacks on their living areas.

The army of the invading Turkish state continues threating the settlements of civilians in Southern Kurdistan territory.

Turkish troops in Zawite, Deştanê, Çeperê Şêxa outpost in Hakkari’s Çukurca district target the villages in Metina region with intense mortar and howitzer attacks.

Most recently, a mortar shell fired from a Turkish outpost hit the village of Orê of Kanimasi subdistrict in Metina region.

Speaking to ANF, residents of the Orê village hold Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan responsible for the attacks on their lands, describing the attacks as atrocity which they say are unacceptable.

A resident living in Orê village for 60 years said the following in response to the Turkish attacks;

“We cannot live in our village in peace nor move freely in our land due to the bombardments of the Turkish state. One of the mortar shells they fired has landed near our home and thanks God, it did not explode. We would have suffered losses if it had. We are poor people and we have nothing other than our village, vineyards and orchards. We cannot move to cities where we will be facing even more challenging conditions. We are living in this village for many years and we do not want to leave home. We will continue living in this village even if it costs us our lives.”

The villager continued; “We do not accept these inhuman attacks of the Turkish state. What are we doing to Erdoğan to be targeted by these attacks? Erdoğan cannot finish off the PKK, just like how Saddam could not finish off the Kurds. They claim to be shelling “guerrilla zones” which is not true at all. They are targeting us deliberately. They are firing mortar shells right into our homes. The God protects us from attacks. We would either get killed or wounded otherwise. We could acknowledge Turkey to be right if we ever did something to them. However, we are just living in our village. We do not accept these attacks. Erdoğan thinks he can finish off the guerrilla through these attacks. Neither Kurds nor the PKK will end. Those committing atrocities will end themselves. I collect the pieces of mortar shells from around my home after every attack of the Turkish forces. They are burning down our lands and destroying our nature. The Turkish state is harming both humanity and the nature. Everyone should speak out against this.”
