ERDOĞAN HAD MADE THE ANNOUNCEMENT

The then-Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan had announced the demolition of the Type E Closed Prison associated with the resistance against the September 12 coup and the construction of a new prison in a rally in Amed Station Square on September 3. Erdoğan’s words were: “Oh if this Diyarbakır Prison could talk about what happened after September 12. Oh the walls of this Ward No.5 could speak and talk about the torture within. We are shutting down the Diyarbakır Prison. We will build the new prison as soon as possible, and we will demolish the infamous prison as soon as it is completed. We do not want that place constantly reminding us of September 12.”
