Former PUK (Patriotic Union of Kurdistan) and Gorran (Change) Movement and currently New Generation member, parliamentarian Rabun Maruf was attacked with arms and stones attack while making a statement to the press in Hewler (Erbil) city of southrn Kurdistan regarding the parliamentary elections of May 12.
Maruf suffered injuries on the head and was hospitalized for treatment in the wake of the attack.
Witnesses said that the assailants were a group that was seen leaving the site called ‘English Village’ in Hewler.
Short before the Iraqi parliamentary elections to be held on May 12, armed assaults start as well as election violations and parties being obstructed.
After the launch of election campaign for Iraqi elections, Bashûrê (Southern) Kurdistan Elections High Council Administrative Works Manager Faris Mihammed was shot and killed in an attack in Hewler on April 24.
After the deadly attack, Gorran Movement MP candidate and New Generation Movement’s candidate for Duhok, Kamuran Berwari was attacked by a mob with stones and sticks in Shaqlawa.
