Details are becoming clear regarding the incidents that took place in Mehlê hamlet in Amed's Lice district yesterday. While it remains difficult to obtain clear information as to what has happened in the area due to the ongoing curfew and ban, reports coming through indicate that a group of civilians who wanted to stop the clashes in the vicinity were blocked by soldiers and special operations police by whom they were later tortured. Two of these locals lost their lives as a result of torture they suffered at the hands of Turkish forces.
While numerous civilians from the Kocakaya family living in the hamlet were taken into custody, bodies of three people killed here, including a woman, have been brought to Diyarbakır Gazi Yaşargil Training and Research Hospital's morgue today. One of these has been identified as Mehmet Şirin Kocakaya, brother of Erdal Kocakaya (40) whose ID card he used.
Erdal Kocakaya was reported to have been killed by soldiers yesterday but it came out today that he was severely tortured, then detained and taken to Diyarbakır security directorate. Erdal Kocakaya, his brother Rojhat Kocakaya and another civilian Veysi Gökhan were also taken to Diyarbakır Gazi Yaşargil Training and Research Hospital for a treatment of critical injuries they suffered yesterday. Erdal Kocakaya whose ribs were broken during the torture, was taken back to security directorate after a short treatment.
