Court rejects conditional release of Behdinan activists

Lawyer Beşdar Hesen stated that the court rejected the conditional release of Behdinan activists who are mistreated by the prison administration.

Beşdar Hesen, lawyer for prisoners from Behdinan, jailed in the Hewler (Erbil) Prison in southern Kurdistan (northern Iraq), made a press statement about the situation of the detainees.

Hesen spoke after today’s hearing and stated that the court dealing with the case rejected the request for the conditional release of the detainees.

“Many other people detained on the very same grounds were released conditionally. The court, therefore, cannot adopt a discriminatory attitude in this case. There is interference with the file of the detainees. If it continues like this, the situation of the Kurdistan Region courts will grow even worse,” he said.

Beşdar Hesen noted that those in charge in Behdinan prison spoke to detainees using strong language, adding that Şerwan Şerwani has been transferred to another prison and his aftermath is not known.
