Kongra Star pays tribute to Zîlan

Kongra Star said: "Zîlan fulfilled her duties toward her people through her fighting spirit and redefined life through her efforts to build a democratic, moral-political, ecological, and free society."

Kongra Star issued a written statement on the anniversary of the martyrdom of Martyr Zîlan (Zeynep Kınacı), who carried out a self-sacrificial action in Dersim on June 30, 1996.

In its statement, Kongra Star said: "In the person of Martyr Zîlan, we commemorate Sema Yüce, Viyan, Rahşan, Elefteriya, and all the martyrs of June. These martyrs made their bodies a bridge to freedom. Leader Abdullah Öcalan described Martyr Zîlan as the women’s freedom manifesto of the 21st century and said, ‘Commander Zîlan, and I am merely her foot soldier.’ Leader Abdullah Öcalan also referred to Martyr Zîlan as the goddess of the Kurdistan Freedom Movement and as an example of a free and courageous woman.

Through her fighting spirit, Zîlan fulfilled her duties towards her people and redefined life with her efforts to build a democratic, moral-political, ecological, and free society. With her action, she initiated a new era for the Kurdistan Freedom Movement and opened new horizons for the militarization of women.

We renew our promise to Leader Öcalan and Martyr Zîlan that we will continue the struggle to achieve the martyrs’ goals, and we state that, in the light of the paradigm of the Democratic Society Manifesto, we will advance toward women’s freedom, democracy, and true peace."
