The online portal Gerîla TV has published further scenes from the guerrilla resistance against the Turkish occupation in the guerrilla-held Medya Defense Zones in southern Kurdistan (northern Iraq). The video shows an action by the YJA Star (Free Women's Troops) on 27 December 2023. A member of the Turkish occupying forces was shot dead by a female sniper on the Girê Cûdî in Zap.

The Girê Cûdî resistance area is located not far from the Şehîd Delîl front in the western section of the Zap region, from which the Turkish army had to withdraw at the end of 2022 after suffering heavy losses. Since last July, the occupying forces have been making another attempt to take Zap.

The Turkish operation was extended to the Metîna region and other parts of southern Kurdistan with the help of troops from the KDP (Kurdistan Democratic Party), which is dominated by the Barzani family. The PKK guerrillas, which consist of the People's Defence Forces (HPG) alongside the YJA Star, are putting up massive resistance to the invasion.
