Former Kurdish mayor sentenced to 12 years in prison

A Turkish court sentenced co-mayor of Bitlis’ Hizan district to 12 years in prison.
Bitlis 2. Criminal Court sentenced Hizan’s former co-mayor Ihsan Ugur to 12 years and four months in prison for “being a member of a terrorist organization” and “making propaganda”.
Ugur attended the final session of the trial via close-circuit camera system and denied the allegations of the prosecutors.
Ugur was detained in 14 December 2016 and is currently imprisoned in Diyarbakir D Type Prison.
