Initial reports said yesterday that two people were killed as a result of fire opened by special operation police in Turgut Özal neighborhood of Kızıltepe town. It later came out that 4 people were murdered in the attack.
According to eyewitnesses, an armored police vehicle opened fire on a civilian car on move yesterday evening. 4 people in the car were killed in the attack by police forces that suddenly riddled the car with bullet. Bodies of the slain residents were taken to Mardin State Hospital.
One of those murdered in the armed attack turned out to be DBP executive Cengiz Erdem, brother of university student Aydın Erdem who had been killed by police in Amed in 2009. Erdem was identified by his family at Mardin State Hospital's morgue.
