Several dozen kilogrammes of explosives were seized from the Turkish army in the Metîna region of the guerrilla-held Medya Defense Zones in southern Kurdistan (northern Iraq).
The press office of the guerrilla army People's Defence Forces (HPG) announced on Friday that a total of around 60 kilograms of explosives, which had been placed by occupation troops in several explosive charges to destroy the defensive positions on the Girê Amêdî resistance massif, were seized the day before. The controlled destruction of the explosive agent could be carried out that morning by units of HPG and YJA Star (Free Women’s Troops).
According to the HPG, two reconnaissance drones were shot down by the guerrillas over Girê Amêdî yesterday. In addition, an attempted advance by the Turkish occupiers was thwarted by sabotage tactics.
The HPG press office also reported that attacks by the Turkish army on parts of southern Kurdistan continue unabated. In the course of yesterday, HPG recorded at least six attacks with chemical warfare agents on the Girê Amêdî and Girê Cûdî massifs. Nine airstrikes by fighter jets of the Turkish army were directed not only against the guerrilla areas of Golka and Çarçel, but also against the surrounding area of the village of Gundê Beşîlî in Metîna region.
About forty further attacks were carried out by attack helicopters. In addition to the hills of Amêdî and Cûdî, Kurojahro, Saca, Girê Hekarî and Girê FM were also affected by the shelling. HPG also pointed out that the Turkish army attempted to demolish the guerrillas' defensive positions and underground tunnels with excavator vehicles in the resistance area of Karker.
