HPG: 12 Turkish soldiers killed, two helicopters damaged

HPG reported 17 more chemical weapons operations by the Turkish army against guerrilla positions in southern Kurdistan. Twelve members of the Turkish forces were killed in guerrilla actions, and two military helicopters were fired upon and damaged.

The press center of the People's Defense Forces (HPG) released a statement providing the latest information on the war in southern Kurdistan (northern Iraq). "Our forces continue their revolutionary offensives against the occupation operation led by the fascist Turkish state. As a result of the actions of our forces, twelve occupants were punished, and three others were injured. An attack helicopter and a Sikorsky helicopter were hit and damaged by our forces. The Turkish occupation forces attacked our fighting positions and tunnels 17 times with chemical weapons and explosives. Our resistance areas were bombed 33 times by fighter jets and dozens of times by howitzers," the HPG statement on Tuesday said.

Regarding the latest guerrilla actions and Turkish attacks in the guerrilla-held Medya Defense Zones, HPG provided the following details:

AVAŞÎN

The invading forces on the Werxelê mountain massif were struck by guerrillas with heavy weapons on Monday. The guerrillas also shelled helicopters on their way to Mervanos. One Sikorsky attack helicopter and one attack helicopter were damaged.

METÎNA

At Girê Cûdî, an advancing Turkish army unit was hit by guerrillas with heavy weapons. At Girê Hekarî, two soldiers were shot by snipers.

ZAP

On Sunday evening as well as Monday evening, guerrilla actions with heavy weapons targeted the Turkish units in the Karker area. A unit attempting to get positioned in Karker was struck by guerrillas from two flanks. The guerrillas infiltrated the camp using hand grenades and firearms. At least four soldiers were killed. Shortly thereafter, a YJA Star sniper shot and killed a soldier who was attempting to attack a guerrilla position with explosives.

In the Şehîd Şahîn area, guerrillas targeted a unit attempting to advance toward the Şehîd Hewrê tunnel, killing one soldier and wounding another.

XAKURKE

On June 4, guerrillas hit a Turkish position at Girê Koordîne twice with heavy weapons. Two soldiers were killed and two others were wounded, while a container was destroyed.  On Monday, another guerrilla action with heavy weapons targeted the occupation forces at Girê Şehîd Axîn, leaving two soldiers dead.

ATTACKS BY THE TURKISH ARMY

The Şehîd Hewrê position in the Zap region was attacked twelve times by the Turkish forces on Monday with a combination of chemical weapons and explosives. The Şehîd Akîf guerrilla position in Metîna was targeted with five strikes with chemical weapons and explosives on Sunday.

In the Zap region, HPG recorded 18 airstrikes by fighter jets and other bombardments carried out with attack helicopters and howitzers since Monday. The area of Werxelê in the Avaşîn region was bombed four times from the air and additional times with heavy weapons on Monday. In Metîna, airstrikes and intensive howitzer fire by Turkish border guards targeted the areas of Girê Hekarî and Girê Orte as well as the surroundings of the villages of Yekmal, Şeşmal, Şêlaz and Baz.
