Azad Özgür

Azad Özgür was born in Wan-Qelqelî in the Serhed region. He worked as a shepherd when he was a child and never went to a state school. This enabled him to escape the forced assimilation practiced on Kurdish children in Turkey and to learn to stand on his own two feet at an early age. During this time, he also met the guerrillas for the first time, who left a lasting impression on him.

In 2014, he went to the mountains and joined the freedom struggle. During his basic training in the Medya Defense Areas he gained many new insights and said that joining the guerrillas was the best decision of his life. In his first year in the mountains, he took part in actions against the Turkish occupation forces.

In 2015, he was injured in the back and head in an enemy attack. After a short treatment, he returned to the front. The following year, he took part in specialized military and ideological training and also learned to read and write during this time. He then fought courageously and selflessly in the Zagros Mountains. The HPG describes Azad as a brave, honest and selfless person who was loved and respected by his fellow fighters.

Delîla Rojevîn Garzan

Delîla Rojevîn Garzan was born in Bedlîs-Tetwan and grew up in a family close to the PKK. Her father was arrested and tortured in the 1990s because of his political activities. The Kurdish freedom struggle had a formative influence on her socialization.

She rejected the feudal requirements for women in society and longed for a free life. After the murder of Sakine Cansız, Fidan Doğan and Leyla Şaylemez on 9 January 2013 in Paris, she decided to join the armed struggle. Shortly after her older sister Rojevîn (Evîndar Kılıçarslan), who also joined the guerrillas at that time, Delîla went to the mountains in Garzan.

Following a call from Abdullah Öcalan, a large part of the guerrillas were withdrawn from Turkish territory. Delîla went to the Medya Defense Areas and received a thorough education. She participated in guerrilla life with great enthusiasm and became intensively involved in the women's liberation struggle. When ISIS invaded Kurdistan in 2014, she took part in the defense of the population and was injured in both feet. After her medical treatment, she returned to her position with undiminished energy and continued to fight. She was one of the brave Kurds who stood up to the Islamist hordes and defeated ISIS.

Her sister Rojevîn was killed in action against the Turkish army in Gever in 2016. Delîla returned to the Medya Defense Areas and took on strategically important tasks. Most recently, she fought in Avaşîn.

Lorîn Bîşeng

Lorîn Bîşeng was born in Şirnex-Silopya. Her family supported the Kurdish liberation movement from its early years, and Lorîn was practically born into the movement. When she first wanted to join the guerrillas, she was rejected because she was very young. Family members and close relatives fought in the guerrillas, and Lorîn stuck to her decision.

In 2015, she went to the mountains in Botan and was trained as a fighter. For her, the mountains of Kurdistan were a place where freedom was lived. When the resistance for self-government in northern Kurdish cities was crushed by brutal military force, Lorîn focused on her combat training. She wanted to defend her people.

She took part in the resistance against the Turkish occupation attacks in the Medya Defense Areas and stood out for her courage and selfless commitment. She continued her education and became a professional militant of the Free Women's Units (YJA Star). She demonstrated tactical intelligence and played an important role fighting on various fronts in the Medya Defense Areas. She fought with inexhaustible energy to the end for the freedom values in which she believed.
