The Press Center of the People's Defense Forces (HPG) has published an overview of the war in South Kurdistan for the period 26 to 29 December. Three soldiers from the Turkish occupation forces have been killed in guerrilla actions in the Medya Defense Areas.
The Turkish army used improvised explosive devices, chemical weapons, explosive-laden drones, fighter jets, helicopters and artillery against the guerrillas.
The HPG provided the following information:
“Guerrilla actions in the Girê Cûdî resistance area
In the Girê Cûdî area in the western Zap region, fighters from the YJA Star (Free Women's Units) stopped an advance by the Turkish army with heavy weapons on 26 December. On 27 December, a sniper destroyed a surveillance camera installed by the occupying forces. Afterward, soldiers tried to replace the camera twice, but were prevented from doing so by the intervention of the YJA Star. On the same day, two soldiers were killed by HPG snipers. Shortly before midnight, another attack by the women's guerrillas with heavy weapons took place, preventing the Turkish army from attempting to deploy there. On 28 December, advancing troops were stopped twice by heavy weapons. On 29 December, the guerrillas attacked the army with semi-automatic weapons, and shortly afterward another soldier was killed by a sniper.
Attacks by the Turkish army
Drones loaded with explosives bombed guerrilla positions on Girê Cûdî five times on 26 and 27 December. In the Girê Ortê resistance area in Metîna, six operations were carried out using chemical gas and unconventional explosives against guerrilla positions. The gases used were yellow and red.
Turkish fighter jets have bombed guerrilla areas twenty times in the past three days. The areas attacked were Gundê Bêşîlî, Golka and Gundê Şêlazê in Metîna, Kalatuka, Bêpalan, Girê Casûs and Girê Şehîd Egîd in Qendîl, Girê Rostê, Geliyê Lolanê, Kolît, Girê Berbizina, Gir ê Shehîd Hawar and Sinînê in Xakurke, Deşta Kafya and Dosteka in Gare and Girê Bahar in the western Zap region. Helicopter attacks occurred in the Xakurke region on 27 and 29 December. Artillery shells also hit the Zap, Metîna and Xakurke regions.
