People's Defense Forces (HPG) Press Office said in a written statement that the Turkish forces officially deployed in South Kurdistan have not been engaged in any military activity since the year of 2000 as they only remained in the barracks where they are deployed.
HPG noted that these Turkish forces didn't record any activity other than information collection despite the escalation of the battle between HPG and Turkish forces since 2004.
According to the HPG statement, the Turkish forces deployed in South Kurdistan territory have been engaged in efforts against guerrilla forces during recent months by conducting reconnaissance and surveillance activities to provide assistance for the Turkish jets to carry out more effective strikes against guerrilla targets.
Most recently -HPG said- Turkish occupant forces moved out of their base in Kanimasi area in Amediye /Duhok to the Hill Orte vicinity in Metina on May 29.
The Turkish troop's encounter with a guerrilla unit resulted in an unexpected clash during which two HPG guerrillas were martyred and one other was captured wounded.
Recalling the Turkish media reports that one lieutenant died in this clash, HPG said the Turkish troop suffered more losses although the exact number couldn't be clarified by their side.
HPG also refuted the Turkish General Staff statement that guerrillas had attacked the Turkish base in this area, stressing that the clash erupted after Turkish soldiers left their base and moved into the zone used by guerrillas from time to time.
HPG underlined that the Turkish military activity in this area aimed to create an unrest in South Kurdistan and deepen the conflicts among Kurds.
"It is a duty of the South Kurdistan government and all relevant powers to prevent such provocations and to adopt a stance against the attempts of creating provocation."
