HPG reports ongoing Turkish attacks with chemical weapons

HPG reported continued chemical weapons attacks by the Turkish army against guerrilla defense positions in southern Kurdistan. Four occupiers were killed in the actions by guerrillas.

In its daily statement about the ongoing war in Kurdistan, the media and communication centre of the People's Defense Forces (HPG) reported continued use of chemical warfare agents by the Turkish army. According to the statement, several underground tunnels and defence positions of the guerrilla organisations HPG and YJA Star (Free Women's Troops) in the Medya Defense Zones were attacked with chemical weapons at least 28 times on Thursday. The regions of Zap, Metîna and Avaşîn were affected by these attacks. In the same period, Turkish warplanes and attack helicopters carried out at least 26 airstrikes.

HPG further reported that reconnaissance drones of the Turkish army are in continuous use over the embattled areas of southern Kurdistan. Several times, however, the guerrillas have again succeeded in pushing back the occupying forces through effective actions. In Metîna, two soldiers were fatally shot on Girê FM yesterday. HPG stated that among the "enemy units" on the hill are people who speak Kurdish and Arabic as well as Turkish. Further guerrilla actions in Metîna were directed against occupation forces at Girê Hekarî and Girê Cûdî. The intended targets were hit "effectively", whether and how many soldiers were injured or killed remained unclear until the end.

In the region of Zap, a YJA Star sniper went after soldiers in the Karker resistance area on Thursday, and one occupier was shot dead. Later in the day, several military units in the same area came under heavy weapons fire while trying to pull up positions in Karker. Another sniper action a day earlier in the resistance area of Şehîd Şahîn left one soldier dead. On Friday night, the guerrillas targeted soldiers at the Şehîd Hewrê war positions. The Turkish units came under artillery fire while trying to place explosive charges at the massif. "As a result, the occupiers had to withdraw from Karker for the time being," stated the HPG.

According to HPG, the Turkish army's airstrikes and attacks with explosives in Southern Kurdistan are combined with ground attacks carried out from outposts on the border. On 9 June, the following attacks were registered in various places:

The underground tunnel system in the Şikefta Birîndara area was detonated with three explosive charges, and two explosions were recorded at the tunnel system in Karker. The number of TNT attacks against the Şehîd Hewrê war tunnels is sixteen. The Werxelê massif was attacked seven times with explosives.

Dozens of artillery shells fired from the Turkish base in Kanî Masî in southern Kurdistan hit Girê Ortê area in Metîna between 8 and 10 June. On 9 June, artillery attacks by Turkish border guards targeted Girê Amediye, Werxelê and Çemço. The same regions as well as Girê FM were targeted ten times by fighter jets. Sixteen additional airstrikes with combat helicopters were directed against Kurojahro, Şehîd Şahîn, Karker, Werxelê and Girê Cûdî. Intensive reconnaissance flights take place over Girê FM, Girê Cûdî, Şikefta Birîndara and Karker.
