The Press Center of the People’s Defense Forces (HPG) released a statement providing information on the ongoing war in guerrilla-held Medya Defense Zones in southern Kurdistan (northern Iraq).
According to the statement, guerrillas destroyed a radio base station belonging to the Turkish army in the region of Avaşîn on Saturday night. The facility had been installed in the area surrounding the Werxelê massif, one of the guerrillas' most fiercely contested resistance areas. Around the same time, guerrillas from the Free Women's Troops (YJA Star) carried out two sniper actions in the Zap region, killing two members of the occupation forces.
Four more Turkish soldiers were killed on Friday during guerrilla actions against the Turkish invasion, and one soldier was killed in the Metîna region on May 28.
On several occasions, the guerrillas carried out sabotage actions against occupation forces in response to chemical weapons operations. In the Karker area in Zap, Turkish forces attempted to swirl chemical substances into the tunnel system with propeller-driven equipment on Friday. In Avaşîn, toxic smoke was piped into defense facilities at Werxelê yesterday.
HPG listed the latest Turkish army attacks in southern Kurdistan as follows:
Between May 30 and June 1, a total of four explosive charges attached to the war tunnels at Girê Cehennem in the Çiyareş area were ignited.
On June 3, the tunnel facilities in Şikefta Birîndara were bombed twice with land mines. While the Karker area was attacked three times with chemical warfare agents, an explosion occurred at Girê Şehîd Akîf. The Girê Hekarî and Girê Ortê resistance areas were attacked both yesterday and today with shells fired from Turkish outposts.
The HPG put the number of air strikes on southern Kurdistan territory by fighter jets and helicopters since Friday evening at 45. According to the statement, the Qaşûra line, the village of Serê Metîna and the surrounding area of the village of Gundê Bêşîlî in Metîna were attacked six times from the air. In Zap, a total of 29 airstrikes were directed against the areas of Girê Bahar, Girê Cudî, Werxelê, Saca, Sîda, Çemço, Çiyareş, Kurojahro, Şehîd Şahîn and Kunîşka on Friday. The Çemço area came under fire from fighter jets ten times on Saturday morning.
