HPG: The guerrilla resistance continues in battle tunnels

According to the HPG Press Liaison Center (HPG-BM), the invading Turkish state bombed the battle tunnels extensively, using chemical weapons, and that the guerrilla resistance in the tunnels continues.

HPG-BIM released a statement providing information on Turkish attacks and guerilla resistance in Van, Metina, Avaşin, and Şırnak regions of Kurdistan.

The HPG-BIM statement includes the following:

"On August 19, the invading Turkish army launched a complete invasion operation after brutally bombing the Kato Xelîla neighbourhood in Van's Çatak district with jets and assault helicopters. The public will be informed later about the continuing operation.

In the Metina region; between 20:00 and 22:30 on August 20, there was helicopter activity on the Qashura line. At the same time, the villages of Kêste, Hirore, Seraru, Deşîşê, Dinê, as well as the areas of Koordîne, Girê Zendûra, and Kela Qûmriyê in the Kanî Masî sub-district of the Amadiya district were attacked with assault helicopters and howitzers fired from outposts along the border line.

In the Avaşîn region, since August 19, the invading Turkish army has been using heavy weapons to blast the war tunnels in the Werxelê area. From 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. On August 20, the battle tunnels in the Girê Sor area were targeted with explosives and heavy weapons.

- Between 10:30 and 14:30 on August 20, chemical gases were fired on the battle tunnels in the Werxelê area. The tunnels were bombed with heavy weaponry and explosives on the same day, between 14:30 and 01:00.

Drone activity in the area remains intense.

In our August 16 statement, we informed the people that the invading Turkish army had conducted an invasion operation in the Sirnex Elkê Meydana area on July 27, 2021, and that our comrade Jîn Ronî (Dicle Üzüm) was martyred after battling valiantly amid intensive air raids and skirmishes. Our comrade Gulgeş Zîlan Serhat (Gülgeş Tatlı) was injured and captured by the invading Turkish army during the fight. Despite being exposed to horrific tortures, our comrade Gulgeş refused to submit to the invading Turkish state.”
