The Press Office of People’s Defense Forces (HPG) released a statement announcing the details of latest guerrilla actions and Turkish attacks in Kurdistan territory.
According to the statement, the Turkish army launched an operation on April 15 in Xakurke region of Medya Defense Zones in southern Kurdistan, northern Iraq. Guerrillas hit an operational unit in the area, as a result of which three soldiers were killed. While the guerrilla unit returned to their base without harm, the operation was ended inconclusively on the same day.
Air strikes on Gare
HPG reported that Turkish jets shelled the vicinity of the Chemanke village in Gare region of Medya Defense Zones on April 14. The air strikes did not cause any casualties in guerrilla ranks, but there was massive material damage to the civilian population's farmland.
Daily attacks by the Turkish army
On Wednesday, the Turkish army bombed pasturelands of the Maxmur refugee camp with combat drones. Three women grazing sheep in the area were killed by the attack. Further air raids by the Turkish army targeted the village of Zinê Wertê in the Qandil region. The region is currently the scene of a power struggle between the KDP (Democratic Party of Kurdistan) and PUK (Patriotic Union of Kurdistan). The KDP deployed troops there, although the region is located in the PUK-controlled area. This latest development has led to tensions between the two dominant parties in Southern Kurdistan.
