HPG: Two Turkish soldiers killed in the Zap region

Two Turkish soldiers were killed by the guerrillas in Zap, and surveillance equipment and explosives belonging to the occupying forces were destroyed. The HPG also reported dozens of air raids on South Kurdistan.

On the western front of the Zap region, two Turkish soldiers were killed in various sniper operations by the Kurdish guerrillas. The Press Center of the People's Defense Forces (HPG) said in a statement on the war in the Medya Defense Areas that the operations took place over the weekend in the Girê Bahar and Girê Cûdî resistance areas. The Free Women’s Units (YJA Star) were deployed in the area. The guerrillas destroyed a surveillance camera installed in the area and 40 kilograms of explosives belonging to the Turkish forces. The actions were dedicated to the guerrilla commander Bêrîtan (Gülnaz Karataş), who died on 25 October 1992 in the so-called Southern War.

The YJA Star also took action against Turkish soldiers in Metîna. The HPG said that on Sunday the guerrillas used heavy weapons to fire on soldiers moving around in Serê Metîna. At about the same time, a small drone was shot down by a sniper in Şêlazê. In Xakurke, HPG fighters had already fired artillery fire on a group of soldiers in open terrain on Friday.

Attacks by the Turkish army

The HPG added in their statement that the Turkish army is still using prohibited weapons and improvised explosive devices in the course of its invasion of South Kurdistan. The use of these weapons of war continues to be directed particularly against the guerrilla tunnel systems in the western section of the Zap front. According to the statement, between 18 and 20 October, the HPG recorded seven such attacks on mountain ranges with guerrilla tunnels. During the same period, Turkish fighter planes also carried out at least 22 air strikes against targets in South Kurdistan, including Xakurke, Gare, Metîna and Zap. A further 24 attacks from the air were carried out by combat helicopters in the same areas.
