HPG Shengal Command and YBŞ General Command have released a statement calling for support for the reconstruction of Shengal town in the wake of its liberation by Kurdish and Êzîdî forces on 13 November.
HPG (People's Defense Forces) and YBŞ (Shengal Resistance Units) recalled that their forces have put up major resistance to protect the people and reconstruct Shengal following the savage aggression of ISIS gangs aimed at them on 3 August 2014.
HPG-YBŞ statement noted that; “The first step of the Operation to Liberate Shengal ended up in victory on 13 November with the support of Êzîdî and peshmerga forces. We present this victory to our Êzîdî people and all the Kurdish people. The liberation of Shengal has been welcomed by our people with great happiness.”
Describing the second step after Shengal's liberation as building the town and ensuring the return of its displaced people, HPG-YBŞ commands said; "However, there exist some humiliating attitudes that contrast with our goals, such as seizure of properties in Shengal town centre, pillaging and demolition of places of worship. Such attitudes, which we regard as inhuman, serve neither the Êzîdî faith nor a patriotic Kurdish unity. Besides civilians, some in military uniforms are also engaged in such immoral approaches. As HPG and YBŞ forces, we are trying to hinder this situation. When we made efforts to bring an end to this case, we witnessed serious tensions.”
HPG Shengal Command and YBŞ General Command ended the statement by calling upon all the political parties to show solidarity in this regard, support the reconstruction of Shengal and adopt attitudes to encourage the turn of forcibly displaced Shengal people back to their sacred lands.
