Internal conflict in Van: New trustee appointed in place of the trustee

Ministry of Interior Affairs is appointing new trustees as AKP members do not get along with the existing trustees at the DBP-held municipalities in Van province and its districts.

Profiteering and internal conflict inside the AKP draws attention in DBP-held municipalities recently seized by the government. Ministry of Interior Affairs intervened in the internal conflict between the trustees appointed to Van on September 11 and the AKP Van Provincial Presidency. The ministry first exiled Özalp’s trustee to Artvin two weeks ago, and has now replaced Edremit trustee İbrahim Özkan with deputy governor Atıf Şahin. The reason for the internal conflict is the coastline of Van Lake. AKP members demanded that the coastline be given to them but Özkan rejected this demand due to the legal difficulties involved in the transfer of the coastline.

AKP PROVINCIAL CHAIR'S DEMANDS

A meeting took place between the five trustees appointed to the DBP municipalities in Van and AKP Van Provincial Chair Zahir Soğanda three weeks ago. In this meeting, Soğanda conveyed the AKP’s demands regarding employment, tender bids and the lake coastline. Several trustees noted that they were appointed, not elected, and rejected Soğanda’s demands.

TRUSTEES WILL BE SWAPPED

After the meeting, the Interior Ministry made new decisions in light of the report Soğanda gave them. Firstly, the ministry replaced Edremit trustee İbrahim Özkan with deputy governor Atıf Şahin, and Van Metropolitan Municipality trustee İbrahim Taşyapan with İpekyolu trustee Önder Can. Uludere governor İbrahim Halil Şivgan, who had carried out AKP propaganda after the July 15 coup attempt, is expected to be appointed as trustee to İpekyolu Municipality.
