Internationalists want to break the KDP embargo on Rojava

Dozens of internationalist activists who were prevented from entering to Rojava by the KDP released a statement emphasizing that their support to the Rojava revolution will continue and they will do all they can to break the embargo.

26 internationalists from different countries were blocked on June 6 at the Peşxabûr Border Crossing by the KDP forces as they were trying to cross from South Kurdistan (North Iraq) to Rojava (North Syria).

The group released a statement after the KDP blocking, saying, “As an international activist group which has members from different parts of the world, we express our support for Rojava and the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria.”

The internationalist group first went to South Kurdistan to cross into Rojava. “The border crossing is controlled by the KDP. They prevented us from crossing into Rojava. In cooperation with the Turkish state, the KDP imposes an embargo on the Autonomous Administration and therefore did not allow us to pass,” the statement added.

The group condemned the crackdown and embargo of the KDP and the attacks of the Turkish state against Rojava, stating, “We condemn this unlawful war of the Turkish state against the Kurdish Freedom Movement. NATO and other states are silent towards and partners in Turkey's crimes. The sale of chemical weapons and fighter jets, the bans against the PKK and the support to the Turkish state must end.”

The activists demanded the opening of the border crossing and the removal of the embargo. “NATO and the European Union should lift the bans on the PKK, withdraw their support for Turkey, and allow the revolutionary activists from all over the world who want to go to Rojava.”

The group called on international activists and pro-democracy groups to support Rojava, adding, “Next month, a second international activist group will come to Kurdistan to support the Rojava revolution and remove the embargo. Our efforts and quest for a free life will never end.”
