Mobile and local internet connections have been cut across Northern Kurdistan in order to prevent the dissemination of protests in the aftermath of the arrest of Amed Co-Mayors.
Mobile and local internet connections were cut yesterday across Northern Kurdistan, reconnected around 22:00, and cut again this morning. Turkcell, Vodafone and Türk Telekom internet connections have been inaccessible since the morning. Local internet lines are also out of service, and thousands of people had applied to end their contract in order to protest the cut yesterday.
THE CUT AIMS TO REDUCE PROTESTS
The cut in internet connectivity is reported to not have anything to do with technical or infrastructural problems but is said to be instructed by the government to reduce the protests after the arrest of Amed Co-Mayor Gültan Kışanak and Fırat Anlı. The government is reported to be aiming to prevent the public from learning about what is going on and taking action.
