The Bashmagh Border Gate had been closed for oil tankers first and later for trade after the independence referendum held in Southern Kurdistan. The Bashmagh Border Gate between Southern and Eastern Kurdistan has been reopened for trade after 10 days.
Bashmagh Drivers Union Executive Council Member Ebdulah Ehmed spoke to RojNews and said: “The Iran Drivers Union let us know yesterday that the gate would be reopened on Wednesday. They say the gate will be open for tourism and trade for now, and it was reopened today.”
Ehmed said highway activity increased after the border gate was opened and added: “We haven’t seen a change in the officers on duty at the gate either. Earlier we had been told Arab officers would be appointed. But of course we don’t know if there is any change in the Kirmanshan side of the border.”
The Perwêzxan Border Gate between Southern Kurdistan and Rojhilat still hasn’t been opened.
Bashmagh, Perwêzxan and Haji Omeran border gates had ben closed tot trading by Iran on October 15.
