Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi insisted that the September 25 referendum should be cancelled and refused Kurdish proposal to freeze the results of the referendum.
“We do not accept but cancelling the referendum, and adherence to the constitution,” Abadi said in Tahran.
Kurdish authorities proposed to freeze the independence referendum results before starting negotiations with Baghdad government.
More than 93 percent of the Kurdish region voted in favour of an independent state. After the referendum, Iraqi forces attacked Kurds and captured several regions including Kirkuk.
Baghdad government refused any negotiations with Kurds until the result of the independence referendum is cancelled.
