Kurdish citizens detained for opposing the settlement of Arab families in their houses in Kirkuk

Kurdish citizens who opposed the settlement of Arab families in their houses in Newroz neighbourhood of Kirkuk were detained.

The Iraqi Army evacuated the houses of 7 Kurdish citizens in Kirkuk's Newroz neighbourhood by force of arms and attempted to settle 7 Arab families in their houses yesterday evening. After the citizens reacted against the occupation, many of them were taken into custody.

According to Rojnews, Kurdish parliamentarians in Kirkuk met with Iraqi Interior and Justice Ministers and tried to withdraw the Iraqi Army from the Newroz neighbourhood. However, the Iraqi troops will reportedly remain in the neighbourhood and continue their occupation.

Houses in the Newroz neighbourhood, which consists entirely of Kurdish citizens, are registered to the Iraqi Ministry of Finance, which continues to Arabise the neighbourhood.
