A kolbar (load carriers on the border for a fee) has been wounded in a landmine explosion on the border between Rojhilat (Eastern Kurdistan) and Bashûr (Southern Kurdistan).
According to a report by the Kurdistan Human Rights Association, on Saturday Silêman Mehmudî (36) lost his left foot when the Iranian regime-laid landmines exploded on contact near the Nîwejin village between Sardasht and Piranshahr provinces in the Urmia state.
A large amount of landmines had been laid on the border between Rojhilat and Bashûr during the Iran-Iraq war between 1980 and 1989, but were cleared after the war was over. Every year, dozens of people lose their lives on both sides of the border while dozens of others are wounded due to mine explosions.
