Turkish warplanes have carried out a massive bombardment in southern Kurdistan (northern Iraq) earlier tonight. The air raids targeted the Medya Defense Zones, Maxmur and Shengal (Sinjar). The attack on Maxmur lasted 40 minutes and targeted civilian settlements.   

Residents of the Maxmur refugee camp took to the streets in protest at the aggression. Speaking here, Maxmur People’s Council co-chairperson Heci Kaçan recalled that the people of Maxmur were not stranger to the occupation attacks of the Turkish state.

Kaçan continued: “The people of Maxmur have paid great prices all their lives. They resisted all the attacks so far and never took a step back. Their will can never be cowed into submission. With the support of the Kurdish people and their friends, we will resist and will never surrender. The people will never step back in spite of the immoral attacks of the enemy. These attacks will only strengthen our commitment to Rêber Apo (Leader Abdullah Öcalan). We condemn those forces that provide support for the Turkish state in its dirty war. The siege, embargo and attacks will never make us step back. The resistance of the people of Maxmur will prevail.”
