May Day rally in Mardin: We will build a new life

Thousands gathered at the May Day rally in Mardin, giving the message; “We will build a new life on June 24. Those denying the Kurds and labor will go.”

Masses are joining the May Day rally in the Mardin province which is attended by HDP Şırnak MP Leyla Birlik, politician Ahmet Türk, and representatives and members of Mardin and Şırnak branches platform of the Union of Public Employees in addition to workers and civilians.

The rally began with a minute’s silence and highlighted a call for the release of politicians held hostage by the state amid slogans “Bijî berxwedana karkeran” (long live workers’ resistance).

Speaking here, Mardin Chamber of Doctors Co-chairperson Derya Etem underlined that the one-man rule will end with the struggle for democracy and justice.

“Workers’ right to strike is hindered in order to protect the profit of patrons in this country which can no more be ruled with the one-man mentality. They want to poison the public employees through the performance system. They seek to commercialize the health service. Day laborers, child workers and the workers that are suffering from seasonal and insecure work murders do not have the right to strike. This dark period will not last long. These dark days ruled by one man will end and we will see sunny days. We will end all these through the struggle for peace, democracy, labor and justice. We will definitively win.”

Speaking after, HDP (Peoples’ Democratic Party) Şırnak MP Leyla Birlik said the followings, referring to the snap elections of June 24; “This people will bring this rule down on June 24. The warmongering government struggles with its policies that deny the Kurd and labor. Turkey needs social peace and democracy. We know that this election is aimed for saving them.”

Sending greetings to all jailed politicians in the person of HDP Mardin MP Gülser Yıldırım, Birlik said; “Democracy, right and justice can only be attained through great labor and effort. We know very well that we will overcome the coming period through unity. We remember all martyred laborers with respect and gratitude. Right next to us, Kurds in Rojava have built an ecological and women-oriented society. This is a hope for us. In spite of them, we will build a new life on June 24 and win all together. We will resist all together. Victory will definitively be ours.”

The rally will end following musical performances by Mem Ararat and Rubin.
