U.S. Special Presidential Envoy for Global Coalition to Defeat Islamic State (ISIS), Brett McGurk, who continues his talks in Sulaymaniyah, has met with Lahur Jangi, head of the PUK's (Patriotic Union of Kurdistan) Intelligence Agency and Special Forces, and PUK Political School Official Bafil Talabani earlier today. The meeting took place at the PUK headquarters at Hill Dabeshan.
The US special envoy continued his talks with a joint meeting with the representatives of six parties that objected to the results of May 12 elections in Iraq and South Kurdistan.
Gorran (Change) Movement, Coalition for Democracy and Justice, Yekgırtu, Komela İslam, Communist Party and Islamic Movement Party had denounced fraud in the elections and demanded a recounting of the votes, stating that they will not be attending sessions in the Iraqi parliament if their demand was not answered.
At the headquarters of the Gorran Movement at Hill Zergete, Brett McGurk met with Gorran Movement leader Ömer Seyid Ali, Yekgırtu Secretary General Selahaddin Bahaddin, Komel İslami leader Ali Bapir and Barham Salih, head of the Coalition for Democracy and Justice. McGurk said it was important that Kurdistan Region parties attend the Iraqi parliament.
The parties objecting to election results have reportedly told McGurk their complaints and expectations.
