Memorial for Diyar Ghareeb in Sulaymaniyah

A memorial for Diyar Ghareeb was held in Sulaymaniyah.

A remembrance for Diyar Gharib was held in Sulaymaniyah on the 3rd year of his assassination.

Many intellectuals, journalists, politicians, religious people and families of martyrs attended the memorial, which took place in front of Diyar Ghareeb’s family’s house in the Bakhtiyary neighbourhood.

A politician, writer and activist, Diyar Ghreeib, was murdered by Turkish drones on 5 July 2019 on Qendil Mountain.

At the remembrance ceremony, portraits and photography of Diyar Gharib were shown to attendees.

Wahab Muhamed, the representative of PKK’s committee of martyrs, addressed the crowd and said that they pay tribute to Diyar Gharib and all other martyr’s families who sacrificed their lives for the freedom of Kurdistan; our enemy intensified its effort in the south, west, east and north of Kurdistan to kill our nation and destroy our environment.

He added that they call on the families of martyrs who sacrificed their lives to liberate Kurdistan without hesitation, to raise their voices and not remain silent against occupation.

Then KJK’s statement was read by Shalaw Mitani, “it has been three years that we are constantly retaliating against the enemy and those who are assisting. This year we are prepared to strike the enemy hard. We will not stop”, KJK said in its statement.

Then they added that Helmet always believed in Kurdish unity and knew Kurdistan’s history well; he also had understood the enemy’s plans well. He and his friends never gave up fighting against fascism and the occupation mentality.

Lava Gharib, sister of Diyar Ghareeb, read the family’s statement and mentioned that even though this commemoration is hard for her family, they are proud of Diyar’s death, but what makes them feel better and be proud is he was a great patriot. “We are delighted that PKK pays particular care to the family of martyrs, occupiers with their allice in local wants to destroy what our martyrs and build achieved. Hereby we repeat our commitment to Diyar’s beliefs.”

At the end of the memorial ceremony, a poem and short film on Diyar Ghareeb’s life were presented.
