The Sulaymaniyah Court had issued an arrest warrant against New Generation Movement’s President Shasiwar Abdulwahid on March 3.
Following the decision, Abdulwahid was detained on accusation of “insulting state officials” the same day. There are two complaints against Abdulwahid. The Court issued a verdict on one of them on March 3 and released the New Generation Movement President on bail, but issued another 24 hours in detention for the second complaint.
The Court is expected to issue a ruling on the second complaint today at 12:00 local time. Asayish security forces intervened when a crowd gathered in front of the Court to protest.
Asayish forces detained many members of the New Generation Movement and 2 reporters from the NRT TV, which later reported over 30 detentions in total.
