Civilians evacuating Mardin’s Nusaybin district were tortured after the staged footage was shot. According to the evacuees, the civilians faced battery and torture from the Police Special Operations (PÖH) units after they were out of the neighborhood. The police said “Welcome to hell” and started the torture after the behavior on camera for show.
FRACTURES AND BRUISES EVERYWHERE
The civilians say they were forced to sign statements, and faced insults and attacks from the staff in the hospital they were taken to for their health checks.
Except for a few among them, the civilians did not show signs of battery or injury in the footage. But following the detention, the released civilians had fractures in their arms, hands, fingers, legs and skull and their bodies were covered in bruises.

Meanwhile, musician Erkan Benli from the band Koma Sê Bira was tortured in detention. The police forced Benli to sing the nationalist anthem-song “Ölürüm Türkiyem” (“I die for you, my Turkey”) and broke his fingers.
