On January 9, 2013, PKK co-founder Sakine Cansız (Sara), KNK representative Fidan Doğan (Rojbîn) and youth activist Leyla Şaylemez (Ronahî) were shot dead in Paris by a contract killer from the Turkish intelligence service (MIT). Although eleven years have passed, the triple murder in the heart of the French capital has not been solved by the judiciary.
In an interview with ANF, HPG guerrilla Kemal Pîr said: "Comrade Sara, Rojbîn and Ronahî fought against oppression all their lives. That is why the Turkish state massacred our companions. Comrade Sara led a great struggle from the beginning of the revolution until her death. Her death is a great pain for all our people. But this pain has also turned into great anger. The Turkish state will pay for this massacre.
"If necessary, we will fall, but we will never submit"
We will never forget the murder of our comrades. Sara was one of the pioneers of our party, the PKK. She belonged to the first group of comrades who were involved in the founding of the party. Comrade Sara was subjected to the worst torture in prison, but she developed enormous resistance, never accepted surrender and never gave in. Comrade Sara represented Kurdish culture with her resistance. In Kurdish culture there is no submission to the enemy. If necessary, we will fall, but we will not submit, we will not surrender. Because we know the truth about the enemy we are fighting against very well. Just as we know the truth about ourselves. For this reason, comrade Sara's resistance was no ordinary resistance."
"We continue the legacy of resistance created by comrades like Sara"
The HPG guerrilla recalled Sakine Cansız's lifelong struggle and continued: "Comrade Sara is our goddess of freedom. In her book she said: 'My whole life was a struggle'. She fought all her life. Comrade Sara was not only fighting against the enemy, but she was also in a great war with herself, with her own mind. As soon as Comrade Sara started the fight, she fought herself first. She always wanted to be a pioneer and a good comrade. Her death hurt us, but it was also a reason to strengthen and expand our fight.
The Kurdish people and everyone who knew them were very sad about the murders of our three comrades. The Turkish occupying state has always committed massacres against the Kurdish people. The enemy wants to destroy the Kurdish people and has continued its attacks for years. Comrade Sara has waged a tremendous struggle against these attacks. She is no longer with us physically, but we continue our path with the legacy of resistance she left behind. Our struggle will continue uninterrupted until we have avenged our comrades."
