Police fired without clashes during the raid in Amed

Murat Çelik was murdered in his home in Kayapınar, while his wife and three children were there, and reports say he was executed when there were no clashes.

In an apartment in the Sıtkı Göral Avenue in the Huzurevleri neighborhood of Amed’s central Kayapınar district, gunfire was heard during a police raid. The special operations police blockaded the whole street and the building, and entered the apartment of a man named Murat Çelik where he lived with his wife and three children.

The Diyarbakır Governorate announced that clashes broke out in the apartment, one special operations police officer lost his life and 9 others were wounded, and one person in the apartment was killed.

After the clash, Çelik’s wife and children were evacuated from the apartment and his mother, who lives in the same neighborhood, was taken into custody.

Neighbors said the police arrived to the street with panzers, helicopters and armored vehicles and clashes broke out on the street before the raid, and then the raid on the apartment started.

WITNESS: THE POLICE FIRED OUTSIDE OF CLASHES

The neighbors later learned that snipers were placed in surrounding apartment buildings and then the police entered the apartment. A witness watching the incident from their window said after the gunfire stopped, the man in the apartment went out to the balcony and put his hands up, and was executed by policemen who entered the balcony.

The eyewitness said the man who was killed was Murat Çelik and the police shot at Çelik even though he had his hands up.

The police investigation in the apartment has been completed, and Kayapınar Municipality cleaning and maintenance workers were taken to the apartments to clean up.

The area is still blockaded and surrounded.
