The United Nations Human Rights Council has completed the file on the human rights abuses in Turkey and the massacres committed by the Turkish state in Cizre, Sur, Nusaybin and other cities in Northern Kurdistan. A special unit formed within the UN Human Rights Office of the High Commissioner, who weren’t allowed by the Turkish state to enter Northern Kurdistan to investigate, has submitted their report on the Cizre massacre to the United Nations Security Council.

UN’S REPORTS ON MASSACRES COMPLETE

This special unit is known as the “Turkey desk” and was formed in Genova under the UN Human Rights Office of the High Commissioner when the Turkish state refused entry to the committee they wanted to send to Turkey to investigate the allegations.

DOCUMENTS OF THE MASSACRE WERE SUBMITTED

The unit started working on June 2016 and has investigated the massacres committed by the Turkish state in Cizre, Nusaybin and Sur, where self governance resistances took place, as well as the human rights abuses in Northern Kurdistan and Turkey. They started to write a report by meeting with NGOs and witnesses and victims of the Cizre massacre in person.

The special unit was presented with countless documents, videos and records of phone calls made by civilians murdered in basements with inhuman methods.

ZEID: “I WON’T LET THIS GO”

According to our sources in the UN, this report by the special unit will be taken into the agenda in the UN Human Rights Council 34th Sessions on Human Rights.

Meanwhile, UN Human Rights High Commissioner Ra'ad Zeid al-Hussein said the massacres in Northern Kurdistan were tragic and that he “won’t let this go”, when presented with the file in the 33rd Sessions on Human Rights.
