Shengal Democratic Autonomous Administration calls for recognition by the new Iraqi Government

The Shengal Democratic Autonomous Administration called for recognition by the newly established Iraqi Government.

The Shengal Democratic Autonomous Assembly made a statement regarding the results of the meeting it held on Friday with all its members and institutions at the Martyr Dilgeş and Martyr Berxwedan Martyrdom. Nayif Şemo, Chair of the Tribes Committee, read the statement.

The Shengal Democratic Autonomous Assembly held its general meeting with the participation of all its components and institutions. The Shengal Autonomous Administration said that they reviewed the latest political situation in the region, especially in Iraq, as well as the activities they carried out in detail.

The statement said: “We held our meeting at a sensitive time when a fierce war is taking place in our region. The ones who suffer the most in this war are the women and children who have been oppressed by the ruling powers and who have not won their rights until now.”

Stating that there is a worldwide silence against these attacks, the Autonomous Administration added that the Yazidi people see this silence as a partnership. "We strongly condemn the forces that carried out these inhuman attacks and salute the resisting guerrillas."

Call to the Iraqi government

The Autonomous Administration continued: “Iraq has been in a political, social and economic crisis for a long time. Efforts to form a new government are also underway. The new Iraqi government must consider the interests of the people. The government's aim should be the establishment of a democratic and united Iraq."

An independent Shengal

Pointing out that the Iraqi government should respect the wishes of the Shengal people and fulfil their legitimate rights within the framework of the Iraqi constitution, the statement said: “The Shengal Autonomous Administration, will strive and fight on the basis of a democratic Iraq and an independent Shengal. We will continue our negotiations with the new government and all political parties in Iraq.”

The statement said that they are evaluating the future and the situation they are in and that they have suggestions and plans to move forward.

The Shengal Autonomous Administration listed its proposals and plans as follows:

"1. Shengal is part of Iraq. However, for its culture and belief, it has always been subjected to massacres and has not been protected. That's why we see Democratic Autonomy as the basic solution for Shengal.

2. The Shengal Agreement signed between Baghdad and Hewler on 9 October 2020 should be cancelled immediately. No agreement should be made or imposed on Shengal without asking the Yazidi and the people of

Shengal.

3. For the unity and stability of Iraq and Shengal, we, as Shengal Autonomous Administration, are ready to negotiate with the new president and government of Iraq and develop our partnership on the basis of a democratic solution.

4. We demand from the Iraqi Parliament to increase the representation of the Yazidi people in the parliament.

5. We call on all our Yazidi people who were forced to migrate due to the genocide against our holy land, Shengal, to return.

6. We call on all Yazidis scattered around the world, especially our Yazidi community in Europe, to do everything necessary in the international arena and raise the struggle for the Autonomy of Shengal.

7. We call on the UN, the US and Iraq to close their airspace to prevent air attacks by the Turkish state against Iraq and Shengal. We invite all the international community, especially the states that recognized the 2014 massacre as genocide, to show a special attitude and effort on this issue.”
