Shengal Democratic Autonomous Assembly says KDP and Baghdad government are deepening problems

The Shengal Democratic Autonomous Assembly, responded to the KDP's attempts to send a delegation to Baghdad on behalf of Shengal saying that such a delegation would not represent Shengal.

The Shengal Democratic Autonomous Assembly made a written statement regarding the problems in the region and the provocations by the KDP and Mustafa Kazimi's government.

The statement said that the Autonomous Administration, the Mustafa Kazimi government and the KDP are trying to deepen the crisis in Shengal. "Despite all the efforts made by the Autonomous Administration for a solution through dialogue, the Kazimi government is still after provocation. Tensions arose in the region after the Iraqi army attacked the checkpoints of Êzidxan Asayish in Digur on the orders of the Kazimi government on 18 April. After this attack, on 2 May, the Iraqi army launched a massive attack with tanks and artillery. The Shengal Autonomous Administration held dialogues and meetings with some Iraqi political parties so that the war in Shengal would not deepen. As we said before, we say once again that this war is not in the interests of Iraq and Shengal.”

The statement added: “As people know, dialogue and negotiations with different parties and institutions in Iraq continue and we want to find a permanent solution for Shengal. However, despite our efforts, the KDP and Kazimi government do not give up on their dirty policies towards Shengal. The Kazimi government, instead of discussing with the Shengal's people, representatives and institutions, has once again turned towards the KDP and wants to maintain the 9 October Agreement.”

Provocations continue

The statement continued: “The Shengal Autonomous Administration is trying to solve the problems, but the KDP, on the contrary, wants to maintain tension in the region. The KDP wants to continue the war on the one hand, and on the other hand, continues its black propaganda and special war policies. They wanted to force our people to leave Shengal with false information. However, when the KDP failed in this plan, it tried to provoke people. Now it continues its provocations with meetings and political dirty games.

A KDP delegation would not represent Shengal

We would like to point out to the Yazidi community that the KDP is preparing to send a delegation to Baghdad on behalf of Shengal and the Yazidi community to meet with Kazimi. This delegation would be organised by Mosul and the KDP, and most of the people in it are KDP members and supporters. They want to promote this delegation on behalf of the Yazidi community and Shengal. The delegation presents itself as the representatives of Shengal's activists, but the activists said in a statement that the delegation did not represent them and could not attend the meeting on their behalf.

As the Autonomous Administration, we see the delegation as a part of the 9 October Agreement. We want to inform the entire Yazidi community and the public that this new attempt by the KDP is the continuation of the 9 October Agreement. What they could not achieve with military attacks and special war policies, they now want to achieve with political games. We are telling the public that we do not recognize this meeting they want to hold on behalf of Shengal in any way.

Call on Kazimi’s government

As the Autonomous Administration, we call on the Kazimi government to take a honest and clear attitude to solve current problems. Such games do not strengthen the ground for dialogue and resolution, they poison it. If they intend to find a solution, they must abandon these practices, not interfere with the Yazidi community, and recognize the will of Shengal.

We call on all Shengal people not to give up their will. No person or party should be allowed to hold such meetings on their behalf. Because we know well that such people do not think about the interests of Shengal, but their own family and tribal interests.”
