Politicians in the Euphrates Region discussed the threats of the Turkish state against Shengal and stated that people must unitedly expand the struggle and frustrate the attacks.
While the Turkish state continuously threatens and intends to occupy Shengal, the governments of Iraq and southern Kurdistan sign an agreement neglecting the freewill of Shengal people. Those threatening the Autonomous Administration cannot stand the self-government of the people. Iraq government, southern Kurdistan administration and the Turkish state compromised each other on the issue of Shengal. Moreover, within these plans, the Turkish state attacked the guerrilla-controlled Medya Defense Zones. In response, Kurdish people call for expanding the struggle against the attacks of the Turkish state on Shengal and Medya Defense Zones.
‘THE TURKISH STATE ATTACKS WHEREVER KURDS LIVE’
Osman Xelef, co-chair of Euphrates Region Democratic Society Movement Council assessed the issue, saying, “The Turkish state rejects the achievements of Kurdish people. It attacks any achievements of the Kurds. The genocide plans against Shengal are also related to this.
The Turkish state negotiates with the Iraqi government to carry out its vicious plans and on the other hand, strives to disturb the stability in North and East Syria. It seeks to set peoples against each other.”
Xelef expressed his reaction to death sentence given for four young Yazidis and stated that people’s silence against this verdict will cause such cases to escalate in the future.
He pointed out significance of standing with freewill of the people and added, “Our people live in safety. Hence, they will struggle against the attacks on their freewill and security.”
‘THE STRUGGLE MUST BE EXPANDED’
Arif Bali, member of Martyr Families Council in Euphrates Region said, “Shengal people faced 74 genocides along the history and have a willpower now. They have self-defense forces. They can defend themselves against a potential attack. Shengal people will always conserve the inheritance and achievements of the martyrs. They must expand the struggle against fascism.”
Defining the Democratic Nation project as an effective alternative model, Bali added, “The Democratic Nation and the Autonomous Administration represent all peoples and belief groups. The Autonomous Administration is an essential system for justice, equality and democracy. Shengal people must conserve their freedom and achievements in this context.”
